Since 1749, the Appleton Estate has been crafting some of the world's finest rum from sugarcane grown on its 11,000- acre estate. Once the sugarcane is harvested, it is fermented with exceptionally soft water that originates on the Estate and is naturally filtered through limestone hills. In addition, the fermentation process uses a proprietary strain of yeast that contributes a unique aroma and flavor profile to the rum.

The story of rum in Guyana started in the 1640s with the introduction of sugar cane by the early European settlers. By 1670, the foundation of Demerara Rum production was laid down with the establishment of distilling into the new territories by the British.

Barbancourt is the most famous of all Haiti’s distilleries and dates back to 1862. Dupré Barbancourt brought the process of double distillation using pot stills as per the Cognac producers in his home region of Charente, France employed. Working entirely with fresh sugarcane juice, rather than the more commonplace molasses as found in the rest of the Caribbean and beyond.

Our journey begins as only the greatest stories do: with an outstanding man. His name is Don Juancho, a man with an adventurous spirit and a passion for rum. Legend has it that this Venezuelan Mantuano (a local nobleman) explored the world tirelessly, searching for the finest and most exotic spirits.

Hampden Estate is one of the oldest sugar estates in Jamaica. Renowned throughout the world for its full, intensely flavorful pot still rums, Hampden Estate continues today to be the quintessential heavy pot still rum of choice.

This story began in 1875 when Alfredo Francisco Pellas Canessa, a young adventurer from Genoa, Italy, risked everything by leaving behind his family and the comforts of the old continent to travel to the exotic country of Nicaragua. In 1890, he found the perfect setting for the Flor de Caña distillery at the base of the San Cristóbal volcano, the tallest and most active volcano in Nicaragua. The fertility of its surrounding lands, the enriched water, and the hot volcanic climate proved to be instrumental in forging the rum’s unique and distinguished character.

Clairin rums of Haiti is easily one of the most eye-opening and awe-inspiring experiences you can have. This independent distillery is run by Michel Sajous in the northern high-altitude village of Saint Michel de L'Attalaye. Here he organically cultivates the Cristalline species of sugar cane, ferments the fresh press only with wild yeasts, and distills to proof in a pot still. Notes here include fresh apples, pickled herbs, green olives, bee pollen white pepper, and honey. A pure unadulterated rum full of authenticity.

A bit of irony here. Mount Gay Rum and our historic landscape was originally owned by John Sober - who inherited a small distillery at the top of Mount Gilboa in the St. Lucy parish of Barbados, far back in 1703. Eventually, the Sober family hired Sir John Gay Allende - a fourth-generation Barbadian - to usher in a new era for the distillery. His innovations and achievements were so profoundly successful that the Sober family renamed the entire distillery in his honor. And the world became introduced to a new name with a pedigree of excellence and craftsmanship. Mount Gay.

In the early 19th century, the first rums produced in Antigua were created by individual estate owners who used crude "pot stills" to distill their spirits. With the demise of rum production on the estates in the early 20th century, the trade shifted to individual rum shops whose owners crafted their own blends and sold them under interesting names such as Red Cock, House, and Silver Leaf. In 1932, a number of these rum shop owners banded together to form the Antigua Distillery Ltd

Don Andres Brugal Montaner moved to the Dominican Republic with one idea: to perfect the art of rum-making. So it was, that in 1888, the Brugal company – and the Brugal legend – was born. Nearly 130 years later, our rum is still crafted by the Brugal Family; only family members can become a ‘Maestro Ronero’. Jassie and Gustavo, from our 5th generation, now hold that honor.

Foursquare Rum Distillery is located on a former sugar plantation that dates back to approximately 1720, within the tiny Caribbean island of Barbados. The distillery was re-opened by the Seale family in 1996, distilling operations and blending are currently directed by Richard Seale, 4th Generation Trader/Distiller of R.L. Seale & Co.

Francisco Jose Fernandez Perez “Don Pancho” was born in Cuba more than 76 years ago. 50 of those dedicated to learning, researching, developing, and making rum. He learned the tradition of Cuban style rum from his Mentor Ramon Fernandez Corrales, and graduating as a Biochemist and Microbiologist, at a time when the title “Masterblender” did not exist, he was the head of research and development for the Cuban brands;

In the spring of 1806 James Gosling, the oldest son of William Gosling, wine and spirits merchant, set out from Gravesend, Kent, England on the ship Mercury, with £10,000 sterling worth of merchandise, bound for America. After ninety-one desperate days on becalmed seas their charter ran out, and they put in at the nearest port, St. George’s, Bermuda. And the rest, as they say, is history. Delicious, deep, dark history.

The Real McCoy® Rum is based on the story of Bill McCoy, the pioneer rum runner of the Prohibition era. In January of 1920, McCoy was the first to fill a boat with alcohol in the Caribbean, sail it up to New York City, and legally act as a floating liquor store three miles offshore. McCoy was careful to always stay outside the three-mile limit, which was international waters in the early days of U.S. Prohibition

Samaroli is an independent bottler located in Scotland that is well-known in the brown spirits category for bottling excellent rums and whiskies. Its founder, Silvano Samaroli, passed away in 2017 but the label carries on under the helm of Antonio Bleve, who has been in charge since 2008

Founded in 1877 by two British brothers-in-law. The house of Tessendier has been distilling, blending, and aging Eaux-de-vie for over 130 years using Charentais stills in traditional Cognac methods. Now, the Tessendier brothers, Jérôme and Lilian, are transforming their knowledge of blending and aging techniques to a different world of spirits: rum.

"Kirk and Sweeney was the name of a wooden schooner that was best known for smuggling rum from the Caribbean to the United States during Prohibition," says August Sebastiani, President of 35 Maple Street Distillery. Just before it entered the territorial waters of the United States, the schooner would drop anchor and sell the rum to smaller boats that would come up alongside the Kirk and Sweeney. The smaller boats, which were faster and more maneuverable than the boats in the Coast Guard's fleet, would smuggle the rum ashore.

In 1836, the three-mast schooner, the Barracuda, hit the reef off a remote uncharted Caribbean island whilst carrying a cargo of spices, tropical fruits, and rums back to England. Being stranded, Captain Abraham Anderson took the crew and cargo onto the island and set up camp. Realizing he was going to be there for some time, he renamed the island ‘Barracuda Cay.
